Friday’s Faux Fur Fabulous Find

Pardon the shameless alliteration, but I am just so gosh darn excited that I have finally found cute and inexpensive faux fur pompoms for my crochet hat addiction.

EDIT: Link currently are not working for all of my neighbours to the south (U.S. I.P addresses)! Troubleshooting for you all as we speak!

So faux fur pompoms are ALL the rage this winter, but I have not been able to find good ones to use for the life of me.  So far the only ones I have been able to find that are somewhat reasonably priced aren’t very cute.  They don’t look like true faux fur and make my hats look like something you could purchase at the dollar store.

The other option is to make your own using faux fur fabric, which is a very inexpensive alternative.  But, if you are anything like me, finding the time to crochet is hard enough, so I would rather not spend more time sewing up pompoms once I complete a hat. Sometimes (especially for a busy Mom) it is worth it to pay a little extra for some convenience.

Which leads me to my greatest find, so great that it needed its own blog post.  I found these lovely pompoms on Amazon. They are fairly inexpensive (compared to your big name brands at craft stores), they come in several colour options (including neutrals and brights), and you can get them with an easy snap on button (allowing them to come on and off for washing the hats).

Check out the difference that it makes on the “Everyone’s Favourite Chunky Beanie”! The left hand photo is my new awesome pompoms, and the right hand photo is my old sad excuse for a faux fur pompom.

See the links below.  I’ve linked to both and (for my fellow Canadians).  I’ve also linked to both the elastic and button attachments. The elastic attachment is a little cheaper, so if easy removal isn’t of huge importance to you, you can save a few extra bucks! with button: with button: with elastic: with elastic:

I was somewhat sceptical before they arrived because they were so affordable, but they are just adorable! So brace yourself for the winter of hat patterns here at Rustic Stitches, because I just can’t wait to make up hats to put all the pompoms on!

Enjoy and I hope you love them as much as I do!

  1. Hi, I have been buying these amazon pompoms as well, and I love them! I buy the ones with the elastic and sew a small (dress shirt size) button on the outside of the hat and loop the elastic on that so they can be removed for washing. I read about someone sewing the button on the inside of the hat and threading the elastic through a stitch to attach it. I tried this as well and it worked well, but I thought not everyone would have a crochet hook handy to reattach the pompom after washing, so I’ll stick to my button on the outside method.

    1. Hi Pat, could you tell me what you are viewing the site with? Computer, iPad, phone, etc? I’ve had two comments about no links but I’ve checked on all the devices in my home and they all show the links. Just need to troubleshoot this issue!

    1. Are you in the US? I just called my parents (in the US) and it’s not showing up for them either. So I’m wondering if it’s only US ip addresses.

  2. I have been buying these snap pompous and love them. Clicked your link and looks like they’ve gone up in price 😭 Still reasonable and there’s no way I have time to make my own!!

    1. I know! I barely find time to crochet these days!
That’s too bad, but at least it’s not $6 a pompoms like some people are paying!!
